My stepmom secretly canceled my prom hair appointment to ruin my day – but she was stunned when a limousine arrived to pick me up.

When Emily is getting ready for prom, she wants to go all out with her look, hair, and makeup. But her problematic stepmother, Carla, intervenes and takes over, canceling Emily's hair appointment. However, not everything is lost when a limousine shows up in front of Emily's house... but who planned this?

Now, get ready, because YOU NEED to hear this story!

To give you some context, I’m Emily, 17 years old, and I’m in my senior year of high school. I live with my dad, my stepmother Carla, and her son Mason. He’s 11, and honestly, we get along like any brother and sister should.

But Carla?

Yeah, this woman just can’t stand me.

It all started seven years ago, after my mom passed away from a cold that wouldn’t go away. Before I knew it, my dad was dating Carla, and a year later, they got married.

“Your mom didn’t waste any time, huh?” my aunt commented on the wedding day. “And who’s Carla? She’s nothing like your mom!”

At first, Carla was fine. She tried to get close to me, but over time, the subtle jabs started to pile up. I remember once catching her staring at me.

“You look just like your mom, Emily,” she said. “It’s painful to look at you. No wonder your dad pays more attention to Mason. He’s closer to Mason, isn’t he?”

I sighed and ignored it, trying not to let her words affect me.

My dad, of course, didn’t notice anything. It was as if he didn’t want to see how Carla treated me. And she loved it. She loved being the only one who could provoke me.

Anyway, fast forward to prom season. Like every other girl in my class, I was dreaming of the perfect night. I had saved up babysitting money for months to buy a beautiful violet dress.

I couldn’t help but think how nice it would be if my mom were here to experience these moments with me.

That’s why I chose the violet dress. It was her favorite color.

Prom night was going to be my night. I knew it.

Every time I thought about it, I felt like something magical was going to happen that night. To get even more excited, I had booked an appointment at the salon. All my friends were going there too.

Everything was ready.

But then, the big day came, and Carla made sure to ruin everything.

I went to the salon, all excited, but when I got there, the receptionist looked at me, confused.

“Emily? Are you sure?” she asked, looking at the computer screen. “Zelda told me you canceled?”

“I didn’t cancel!” I exclaimed. “Why would I do that? The prom is tonight!”

“Calm down, honey,” the receptionist said. “Let me call Zelda.”

I waited impatiently while she went to get the hairdresser. Finally, they came back.

The hairdresser looked uncomfortable.

“I got a call earlier saying you wanted to cancel, Emily. I thought it was from your mom?”

My heart sank. Canceled? How? I didn’t cancel anything! What mom?

Still processing everything, I looked to the side and saw her.

Carla.

Sitting there, getting her hair done. Of course.

She saw me and just gave an ironic smile, her eyes as cold as steel. Carla had canceled my appointment.

“Is there any way I can fit in somewhere else?” I asked Zelda.

She shook her head, sadly.

“I’m sorry,” she said. “When your appointment was canceled, a woman called and booked hers. All the time slots are taken. Sorry, dear.”

I just stood there, in shock. So, Carla called pretending to be me? Or my mom? And even took my spot just to watch me get disappointed?

Gross.

I could barely hold it together as I ran out of the salon, my head spinning. I felt sick.

My perfect prom? It was falling apart right in front of me. When I got home, I locked myself in my room, tears streaming down my face.

I sat at my vanity, trying to do my hair by myself, but nothing worked. I felt stupid for even telling Carla my plans, even if it was just casually.

See what happened?

I looked at my dress hanging on the hanger.

I didn’t even know if I still wanted to go to prom.

I just sat there, staring at the makeup on my vanity, wondering if it was even worth it. Like, what was the point? I was already so sad, and I didn’t think anything good would come of it.

Suddenly, I heard a loud horn outside. At first, I ignored it, thinking it was just some random car.

But it didn’t stop.

Wiping my eyes with the back of my hand, I dragged myself to the window, expecting to see some kind of movement on the street. But when I looked outside, my jaw dropped.

A shiny black limousine was parked in front of our house.

I thought it was a mistake. There was no way the car was for me. My friends' parents had said no when we talked about this months ago. But still, I ran downstairs.

I stood at the door, waiting for something to happen. The driver got out of the car and walked up to the front door. My dad, just as confused as I was, stood on the porch with a look as puzzled as mine.

“I’m here for Miss Emily, sir,” the driver said, handing a small card.

Miss Emily? Me?

“She’s here,” my dad said, waving me over.

I took the card from my dad’s hand, hesitantly, and opened it. Inside, in beautiful handwriting, were the words:

To my beautiful sister, Emily. I know you’ve been going through some tough times, but you deserve the best night ever! Enjoy the limo and don’t worry about a thing. I’ve been saving all my birthday and Christmas money.

Have a magical night, sister.

With love, Mason.

Mason? My 11-year-old brother did this?

I broke down in tears again, but this time it was from pure surprise and gratitude. I ran upstairs to find Mason in his room, grinning like he’d just pulled off the best prank ever.

“I overheard mom on the phone this morning,” he said, shrugging like it was no big deal. “I knew it wasn’t fair.”

Turns out, he had heard Carla cancel my hair appointment, and in true little brother fashion, he decided to do something about it.

“But you used your own money?” I asked, feeling awful.

“Actually, no,” he smiled. “You know, mom’s been saving money to buy a diamond necklace. She’s been showing it to dad, hoping he’d buy it for her. But he said no.”

That’s right, dad, I thought.

“Anyway, after I heard her on the phone, she left the house. So, I took some of her money and went over to Mr. Johnson, next door. He owns the limo company, remember?”

But Mason didn’t stop there.

“There’s more, Em,” he said. “Mrs. Evans, from the house across the street? Her daughter is a hairdresser at the mall. She’s coming here to do your hair and makeup soon.”

Right after he said that, the doorbell rang.

“She must be here!” Mason said. “Go wash your face, I’ll have her come upstairs.”

When did Mason grow up? I wondered as I did what he told me.

Twenty minutes later, I went from crying in my room to looking like a princess. I just wished my mom were there to take care of me. To snap a thousand pictures and tell me how proud she was of me. I wanted her hug more than anything.

But still, Mason saved prom!

When Carla pulled into our driveway, I was already out front, stepping into the limousine like a movie star. Her face? It hit the floor. She got out of the car and just stood there, stunned.

Her expression? Oh my god. I wish I had taken a picture of her face. I’d put it on my mirror!

“Richard? Did you do this?” I heard her yell at my dad before the driver closed the door.

Moments later, the driver took me away.

Prom was everything I had hoped for. When I arrived in the limo, all eyes were on me. I was radiant, and I knew it. For the first time in a long time, I felt like my mom was there with me.

The night was pure magic. I danced, laughed with my friends, and forgot about all the mess at home.

As for Carla, I hope she learned her lesson. You can’t mess with someone’s happiness and get away with it… especially when your little brother comes to the rescue!
