Prince and princess of Wales spread joy in Pontypridd, baking Welsh cakes and connecting with the community

The Prince and Princess of Wales participated in kitchen activities during their visit to a community in Wales on Wednesday.

During their trip to Pontypridd, a town in Wales that had been severely impacted by flooding last year, William and Catherine tried their hands at making traditional Welsh cakes.

The couple also took a stroll through the town’s market, engaging with local business owners and chatting with people who had gathered along the streets.

Their visit included a stop at The Welsh Cake Shop, where they were invited into the kitchen to try their hand at baking. Donning aprons and rolling up their sleeves, the royal couple used rolling pins to prepare the cakes.

A photo shared on the couple’s Instagram captured them laughing together in front of a griddle with the caption, “Anyone want Welsh cakes?”

After baking, they were seen serving their creations to children in the crowd.

Prince William has previously served food to the public. In 2023, he surprised customers at a London food truck, working as a server handing out veggie burgers. The burgers were made with environmentally friendly innovations from the winners of the Earthshot Prize, a global project founded by William to help “repair and restore the planet.”

The visit occurred just days before Saint David’s Day, an annual Welsh holiday celebrated on March 1.

In November, Pontypridd was among several areas in Wales severely affected by flooding due to Storm Bert, which hit the UK. A few weeks later, Storm Darragh caused even further damage.

The royals acknowledged the strength and resilience of the community affected by the flooding in a post on their official Instagram account.

Kate’s return to royal duties also marked a significant milestone in her recovery, after she had stepped back from public life the previous year to undergo treatment for cancer.

In September, she announced that she had completed chemotherapy and was doing everything she could to stay cancer-free. She has since resumed public engagements, including visits to the hospital where she was treated.

Earlier this month, the couple shared a photo celebrating Valentine’s Day, accompanied by a simple red heart emoji.
