The son rejected his mother at his wedding: Why?

My name is Alice, I’m 65 years old, and I’m just a housekeeper. Everything I’ve done in my entire life was for my son, Mike. Being a single mother was never easy, but the love I had for him kept me going — waking up every day, working hard, no matter the difficulties.

He grew up to become a successful man, and I was so proud of him, especially when he told me he was getting married. I was on cloud nine!

I saved up for months to buy him a nice suit as a wedding gift. I couldn’t wait to see the look of happiness on his face when he saw it. However, when I showed him the suit, Mike crushed me with his words.

— Do you really think I’d wear this junk at my wedding? — he said, looking at the suit with contempt. — I’m marrying a rich woman, Mom! And... I don’t want you there. My housekeeper mom will just embarrass me!

Those words destroyed me. I spent the whole night crying in my room, feeling like my heart had been ripped out of my chest. I felt empty, humiliated, and, above all, rejected by my own son.

But by dawn, something changed within me. I decided that, no matter what, I was going to the wedding. I had something special to give him, and I wouldn’t let him stop me from being there on that day.

The wedding day arrived, and the ceremony was beautiful. The bride’s dress was elegant, the guests were all well-dressed, and everything seemed perfect.

But when Mike saw me, his face twisted in anger. He quickly approached me and whispered, irritated:

— What are you doing here? I warned you, Mom. Leave now, please!

But I didn’t move. I stood firm, looking him in the eyes. I knew what I needed to do.

— Mike... I didn’t come here to embarrass you, but to give you something much more important than a suit.

— I said, with a firm voice, though my heart was breaking. — I’ve given you everything I could throughout my life, and maybe I don’t have what you expected, but I gave you love. That will never change.

He looked at me in silence, as if struck by lightning. I saw the anger in his eyes fade a little, but he was still tense.

— Mom, this is...— he started, but his fiancée approached and looked at me with a judgmental gaze.

Then she spoke:

— Mike, maybe she has something that you still don’t understand. You may not need another suit or more money, but you’ll always need someone who loves you unconditionally. That’s what matters.

Silence fell over everyone, and Mike stood there, unsure of what to say. Finally, he turned to me, and for the first time, I saw the pain in his eyes.

— I... I didn’t know you cared so much, Mom. I... I was so obsessed with doing things the right way that I forgot who had always been by my side. I... I’m so sorry.

And in that moment, he hugged me, tightly, like never before. I hugged him back, feeling the weight of rejection finally lift off my shoulders.

The wedding continued, but on that day, Mike and I found a place of reconciliation and understanding. It didn’t matter what he had or didn’t have; what really mattered was the love we had always shared.

At the end of the night, Mike approached me again, now with a genuine smile on his face.

— Mom, thank you for being here. I’m not perfect, but you’ve always been the best mother I could have.

He said, holding my hand. — I’ll love you forever, and from now on, I’ll do my best to appreciate you.

And, in that moment, all I felt was gratitude. Even through the hardest times, love has the power to heal wounds and transform hearts.

From that day on, everything changed, and now, I finally knew that my son understood what really mattered.
